effect of silane on shear bond strength of two porcelain repair systems

abstract
objective: ceramics have advantages such as optimal esthetics and biocompatibility. however, in the oral environment, they are subjected to high levels of stress due to masticatory forces, saliva, thermal changes and alterations of ph, which increase their risk of fracture. since replacement of these restorations is costly and time-consuming, composite resin is often used for intraoral repair of these restorations. this study aimed to assess the shear bond strength of two porcelain repair systems by pulpdent and ultradent and evaluate the effect of number of silane layers on the shear bond strength. methods: this invitro experimental study was conducted on 66 porcelain blocks measuring 3×5×8mm. in each kit, samples were randomly divided into three groups of 11. silane was not used for group one. groups two and three received one coat and two coats of silane, respectively. after surface preparation, composite was bonded to ceramic surfaces. data were analyzed using two-way anova. results: the lsd test showed that application of ultradent silane significantly affected the shear bond strength (p<0.05) while pulpdent silane had no such effect (p=0.89). application of one layer and two layers of silane was not significantly different (p=0.94). conclusion: ultradent ceramic repair kit yields higher shear bond strength at the ceramic-composite interface compared to pulp dent ceramic repair kit. use of one or two layers of silane does not make any significant difference with regard to the shear bond strength of ceramic to composite.

full textLaboratory evaluation of shear bond strength of porcelain repair methods
Introduction: Porcelain fracture is a relatively common problem in clinical dental practice. Various methods have been proposed for repairing porcelain fractures including direct composite resin repair or construction of a porcelain laminate veneer and its cementation with a resin cement. Evaluation of shear bond strength of porcelain repair methods was the purpose of this study. Methods: Tw...
full textEffect of Chlorhexidine on Micro-Shear Bond Strength of Two Adhesive Systems After Aging
Background and Aim: Recurrent caries and low bond strength are the main causes of composite restorations failure. This study sought to assess the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) on micro-shear bond strength (MSBS) to dentin of a fourth generation adhesive system and a universal bonding agent after aging. Materials and Methods: This in vitro study used 32 extracted third molars and 3-5mm thick de...
full textEffect of Er:YAG Laser Irradiation on Shear Bond Strength of Two Porcelain Laminate Veneers Bonded to Tooth Surface
Background and Aim: The conventional procedure for removal of porcelain laminate veneers (PLVs) is time-consuming and inconvenient. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Er:YAG laser for debonding of PLVs. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight intact extracted human maxillary anterior teeth received discoid PLVs (24 feldspathic and 24 e-max ceramic). The PLVs had 0.7 mm thickn...
full textComparison of the Effect of Three methods of Porcelain Surface Treatment on Shear Bond Strength of Composite to Porcelain
Background and Aim: Several methods are available for intraoral repair of chipped porcelain restorations by composite resin. Also, there is still controversy regarding the best method of porcelain repair in terms of bond strength and cost effectiveness. This study aimed to compare three methods of porcelain surface treatment on shear bond strength (SBS) of composite to porcelain. Materials a...
